Flying High
Topic: Musing
When I worked down by the airport along the South Ramp, I was asked to be an "extra" in a promotional video. It was for a helicopter tour company, and they didn't want their helicopter to look empty while they were filming so I got to sit in the back seat and just enjoy the ride.

It was a thrill. We flew over the green lush mountains that separates the airport from the windward side of the island, and I remember feeling like I could reach out and touch the mountain. We weren't really that close, but we weren't too far away either.

The pilot, Mark, explained to me that since we weren't paying passengers he could fly a little closer to things we could crash into, like mountainsides. How nice. We made our way into a gorgeous and green rain forest area and at one point hovered beside a cliff while a second helicopter took their shots of us.

After we were finished doing our bit, we started to head back to the airport when a little static and a voice came over the radio. A radio controlled helicopter was lost in a field nearby and the controller on the ground was calling out for help. We took a little detour over the field and spotted the crash site in some swampy land next to the field with grass that must have been growing at least 5 feet high. We hovered over the downed toy to mark its position then headed back to the airport.

We must of been off the ground for a little over an hour. I still recall the feelings of excitement and wonder. It was my first and last helicopter ride and I was flying high even after I returned to solid land.

Have you ever seen the curvature of the Earth? ~ BreezeB
Topic: Musing

On weekday mornings I usually drive down from central Oahu to the North Shore.  It's a rather relaxing commute through a quiet agricultural landscape.  I love to drive with my windows down and with the cool morning air wooshing through my 4Runner.  As I head to Haleiwa, I can see where the ocean meets the sky and I am sure I can see the gentle curving of the Earth.

Water Water Everywhere

Today it rained.

As long as I don't have to drive in it, I really <3 rainy days.

When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I remember a big storm passed through the Islands. It downed trees and maybe even gave us a break from school (my memory gets a little fuzzy there) The puddles were over a foot deep and beckoned me to wade through their murky water as I went outside to play in the after storm drizzle. I lost track of time playing in the light rain and puddles and since then I always connected rain with something wonderful.

I waited and waited for another big storm like that, but after a few years passed, I realized they were few and far between. Still, I've grown to appreciate the little storms. The air smells different. The air feels different. And then the water comes.

Skype and Contemporary Art
Topic: Musing
So, I decided to hang out in skype-land for a bit this afternoon and blurt out whatever came to mind. I shared a link to Shine, and babbled on about this and that. We watched Annie Lennox and David Bowie do a rendition of Under Pressure via youtube and commented how youtube has opened our eyes to a whole new experience. In the midst of our brooding over interior design and the heat in Texas, I was given a link to art by Michael Cutlip (click on his painting below titled Onward to go to his website). His site is pure eye candy.

We browse and we listen and we see together.

Total eclipse of the heart....

or I should say Moon.

It's a beautiful sight.  A redish, rusty sphere in the sky.  It really did look closer to the earth to me.  Like a large red ball way up high in the atmosphere.
