What your doctor wants you to know...
Topic: Life

A summary of an article in Real Simple Magazine, May 2008

the oncologist says:  Turn down the grill, adopt a furry friend (enhances imunity by producing edorphines and decreases stress), and have a European Lunch and stay out of the sun during peak times for sun damage.

the dentist says: eat your atioxidants (like blueberries and brocoli), limit lemons which are hard on tooth enamel, use a soft toothbrush.

the podiatrist says:  check your feet size every few years (especially after pregnancy), change your shoes (don't wear the same heel height every day, to change the pressure points to different parts of the feet), and don't go barefoot, which has no arch support.

the cardiologist says: watch the fat around your middle (storing fat there is linked to higher risk of heart disease), watch your colesterol and blood pressure, and eat nuts (like walnuts which contain healthy fat) a few times a week.

the sports medicine doctors says:  do a variety of physical activities, replace old footwear.

the neurologist and memory experts say:  use it or lose it (do puzzles and crosswords!), manage stress, drink a glass of red wine over white.

the spine surgeon says:  work your core to save your back,  move in close to pick up anything, don't sit still (remaining in one position for too long stiffins your muscles and puts pressure on your spine).

Pass the Pigs!
Topic: Life
My little girl just turned 7 this month and one of her gifts she received was a funny little game called PASS THE PIGS.

Out of the package it didn't seem like much, just 2 little pigs with a dot on one side.  But we spent a couple of hours tossing the pigs and laughing.  The first pig tosser to get to 100 wins.  Depending on how the pigs land you can get points or the dreaded "pig out" where you lose all your points for that turn.  Even worse was getting an "oinker" where you lose all your points you accumulated for the whole game.   Luckily, we never saw a "piggy back" where one pig lands on top of the other.

I'd recommend this game for any elementary age kids!
